My First Beef with Obama

I knew it wouldn't take long, but scrapping the idea of immediately repealing the Bush tax cuts for top income earners?  Not only does this go back on the major populist promise Obama made during the campaign, but it really doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense from an economic standpoint either.  Check this out for more.

What difference does it really make it if happens in 2010 instead of 2009?

I agree that it needs to happen at some time or another, but the original inspiration for doing it right away was based on placating the emotional disgust of the working class.

Now we\'re officially in a recession. Take away the elitist tax cuts now and the rich twerps will hoard their money rather than invest in new business.

Right now, more than anything, we need new jobs. Repealing the ridiculous Bush tax cuts for the rich will not create new jobs or stimulate the economy at this particular point in time.

Obama knows what he\'s doing. Let him actually take the Oath of Office before you start criticizing his policies.

Liles, I\'ll tell you what difference it makes. If the tax cuts are eliminated in 2009 the top wage earners are not going to be getting a huge tax credit in 2010. However, the rest of us are going to get a cut on our taxes in 2010; thereby, allowing us to stimulate this floundering economy.
Liles, for eight years we have seen that there is no \"trickle down\" from the top. The people at the top are not in the sharing business. That\'s why they\'re at the top. Fuck \'em. The rich twerps always have and always will hoard their money rather than invest in new business. That\'s what they\'ve been doing.
If he does wait until the tax cut runs out in 2010 I don\'t know how bad it will get, but it will definitely get worse.
He has been talking about creating a stimulus package as soon as he gets in office, so maybe that will change mine and other people\'s tone. I don\'t know. We\'re in a troubling and shaky time so it\'s hard to say what the right answers are. What we do know though is that big business has not created the answer.

Ok then, ?. Just for a minute, play the devils advocate and speculate as to why Obama wants to wait rather than push it through now. What could be his motivation? Deceit? Bait and switch politics?

Listen, I agree the tax cuts should be repealed. But I also know that a new President has to pick his battles and take baby steps when overhauling established protocol. Clinton crashed and burned when he tried to roll out a new \"Don\'t ask, don\'t tell\" policy in the military, and it compromised the political capital and/or mandate he had established with the election victory in \'92.

Are you guys intimating that Obama lied on purpose during the campaign and really had different strategy in mind the whole time? Or could he be taking everything that has happened during the last month into consideration (auto company bailouts, terrorism in India, new cabinet appointments, etc) while formulating and establishing prioritized initiatives?

Let\'s at least give Barack Obama the benefit of the doubt long enough to see how some of this stuff plays out. We know the Bush tax cuts are toast. It\'s just a matter of time as to when.

No, I don\'t think that Obama was lying to us. I think he is the great neutralizer here. When I say people at the top, I mean big business. Those are the fuckers. Bush is a fucker. Obama is not.
That\'s why the tax cuts are such crap. Bush gave big business a break when they weren\'t even asking for it. He was putting a policy in place that would help himself out.
Obama should get rid of any policy that is only looking out for less than 1% of the entire population.

This country is a real uh... fixer-upper right now. Obama has a rocky 4 years a head of him. What I like about him is his realism. Throughout his campaign, he said that the next four years would be very difficult, and that nothing would come instantly. Whoever thought that by Obama being elected, things would get magically better instantly are idiots. Or naive. Or Both. Either way, I\'m going to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. I don\'t like that he put Hilary in his administration. I hate her guts.

my first beef with Obama, better be the BEEF JERKEY that Michelle is making.

This seems like a pretty inconsequential thing to complain about, the cuts will expire anyway and delaying them could possibly help some low level workers keep their jobs? Also duh, the dude bro is trying to save some centrist face here- and also, he is how you say,
\"a corpo fuck\" WUZZUP PAC\'s WHERE MY LOBBYISTS AT

the truth is, according to all major economists (including those in his staff), any sort of tax increase will be detrimental to the economy. there is no time for populist or liberal or conservative lables on this sort of action, it just that ABSOLUTELY NO SORT OF TAX INCREASES CAN OCCUR DURING A RECESSION.

i\'m pretty confidant in obama, but i think people have expectations that are just a little bit too idealistic. no president is perfect, that\'s just the way things are.
